Slide 15

The tiles are shuffled and one square is empty. Slide tiles into the gap until the numbers run in order from the top left, with the empty square in the bottom right corner.

How to play Slide 15

Click or tap a tile next to the empty square to slide it in. You can also tap a tile further along the same row or column, and every tile between it and the gap slides together. The puzzle is solved when the tiles read 1, 2, 3 and so on across each row, with the gap in the last square. Tiles already in their correct place turn yellow.

Boards are shuffled with random legal moves, so every puzzle can be solved.

A method that always works

  1. Solve the top row, one tile at a time. Place the last two tiles of the row together by parking them below their spots first.
  2. Solve the left column the same way.
  3. You now have a smaller puzzle. Repeat until only a 2×2 corner is left, then rotate the last three tiles into place.

About this game

The 15 puzzle caused a craze in the 1880s, and it is still a favourite exercise in logic and patience. Homivoo's version offers three board sizes and records your lowest move count for each.
