Brick Breaker

Keep the ball in play with your paddle and break every brick to finish the level. You have three lives. Each level adds rows, tougher bricks and a slightly faster ball.

Brick Breaker

Move with the mouse, your finger or the arrow keys. Click, tap or press Space to launch the ball.

How to play Brick Breaker

A wall of coloured bricks sits at the top of the screen. Your paddle sits at the bottom. Launch the ball, then move the paddle to bounce it back up every time it falls. Each brick the ball touches breaks and adds to your score. Clear every brick to move on to the next level.

If the ball falls past your paddle you lose a life and the ball resets on the paddle. Lose all three lives and the game is over. From level 3 onward the top row is made of reinforced bricks, outlined in white, that take two hits.

Scoring

A normal brick is worth 10 points multiplied by the current level, so a brick on level 4 is worth 40. Hitting a reinforced brick the first time gives 5 points and breaking it gives the full amount. Clearing levels quickly is the best way to a high score, because later bricks are worth much more.

Tips

  • Aim with the paddle edges. The centre of the paddle sends the ball almost straight up. The edges send it out at a sharp angle, which is how you reach bricks in the corners.
  • Dig a tunnel. Breaking through one side of the wall lets the ball bounce around above the bricks and clear many at once.
  • Stay under the ball. Move early rather than late. The ball speeds up slightly with every paddle hit.

About this version

Brick-breaking games trace back to the 1976 arcade game Breakout. Our version is an original HTML5 canvas game with its own level layouts, written for both desktop and touch screens. No plug-ins or downloads are needed.
